City of Cape Town: Metro Police and Traffic Learnership Programme 2026
The City of Cape Town is offering an exciting learnership opportunity for unemployed youth between the ages of 18 and 34 who meet specific criteria. This 18-month programme begins on 7 January 2026 and provides comprehensive training in Road Traffic Law Enforcement, conducted by the Public Safety Training College.
Requirements
- Grade 12 qualification (documentary proof required)
- Permanent residency within Cape Town (documentary proof required)
- Proficiency in English and at least one other official language
- Currently unemployed (including students and EPWP staff)
- Age between 18 and 34
- Medically and physically fit for strenuous physical training
- Must be able to work in a team and handle stressful situations
- No criminal record
- Valid driving license, minimum code B (manual transmission)
- No visible tattoos while wearing the uniform
Fitness Requirements
Shortlisted candidates must pass several fitness tests including:
- 2.4 km run (11 minutes for males, 13 minutes for females)
- Push-ups, sit-up tests (30 in 60 seconds for both genders)
- Dead load carry, tyre drag, shuttle runs, wall clearing, motorcycle reach test, and a comfort swim
Additional Requirements
- Passing a written assessment and interview
- Submission of fingerprints for criminal record check
- Passing a City medical and drug evaluation
- Completion of the Further Education and Training Certificate in Road Traffic Law Enforcement
- Adherence to the Public Safety Training College's code of conduct
