Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA): Bursaries 2026
The Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) invites students to apply for their bursary programmes for the 2026 academic year. This initiative is designed to support education within the Mining and Minerals sector.
Available Bursaries
Two types of bursaries are offered:
- Unemployed Bursaries: 430 bursaries available for students studying or intending to study full-time at a public University, University of Technology, or TVET College in South Africa.
- Employed Bursaries: 70 bursaries for employed individuals within the mining and minerals sector, studying relevant qualifications.

- Analytical Chemistry
- Chemical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Mining Engineering

TVET College (N4 to N6 and NCV qualifications):
- Boilermaker
- Electrician
- Fitting (including Machinery)
- ...and more.
Financial Cover
- Unemployed Bursary: tuition, accommodation, book, and meals allowances.
- Employed Bursary: tuition and book allowance.
Eligibility Requirements
For Unemployed Bursary:
- South African citizenship
- Currently in or completed Matric
- Studying or intending to study towards an Undergraduate qualification in relevant fields
- Financial need with a household income below R600,000 per annum
For Employed Bursary:
- South African citizenship
- Employed within the mining and minerals sector
- Studying or intending to study relevant qualifications
