Senior Quantitative Analyst Position at Capitec Bank – Stellenbosch
Capitec Bank Ltd · Stellenbosch, ZA
Capitec Bank Ltd is recruiting a Senior Quantitative Analyst to join its expanding Quantitative Analytics capability within Enterprise Risk Management in Stellenbosch, South Africa. This full-time, onsite position offers experienced quantitative professionals the opportunity to lead complex modelling work across Asset & Liability Management (ALM), liquidity risk, market risk, and regulatory metrics. Candidates must have 5–7 years' hands-on experience in quantitative risk modelling and an Honours degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative discipline.
Overview of the Opportunity
Capitec Bank is strengthening its Quantitative Analytics capability and seeks a Senior Quantitative Analyst to design, develop, and own quantitative models that underpin liquidity risk, capital adequacy, ALM, Interest Rate Risk in the Banking Book (IRRBB), and stress testing. This role involves operating across the full model lifecycle—from data sourcing and preparation through to modelling, validation, interpretation, and stakeholder engagement—while acting as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders. The successful candidate will translate regulatory frameworks and risk strategy into robust, interpretable models that support decision-making at the highest executive level.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Quantitative Analyst will be responsible for leading the design, development, and ownership of quantitative risk models with a strong focus on:
- Asset & Liability Management (ALM)
- Liquidity risk modelling
- Interest Rate Risk in the Banking Book (IRRBB)
- Market risk and counterparty credit risk models
Additional responsibilities include supporting enterprise and board-level risk metrics such as capital adequacy, liquidity risk, and regulatory reporting requirements. The role requires translating risk strategy and regulatory frameworks into practical, operational models and insights, working across the full model lifecycle. The analyst will partner closely with Risk, Treasury, Data Engineering, and Senior Stakeholders to ensure models are fit-for-purpose and well understood, while operating as a technical lead and subject-matter expert to guide best practice within the quantitative space.
Minimum Experience Requirements
Candidates must possess 5–7 years' hands-on experience in quantitative risk modelling within banking, financial services, or risk consulting. Strong experience building (not just using) quantitative models is essential. Proven exposure to regulatory capital and liquidity frameworks including ICAAP, ILAAP, LCR, NSFR, and CAR is required, along with experience in stress testing and economic capital modelling. Strong programming skills in Python or R, combined with SQL for data extraction, are mandatory for this position.
Ideal Candidate Profile
While not mandatory, the ideal candidate will bring 7+ years' experience in enterprise-wide or board-facing quantitative roles. Direct involvement in ICAAP/ILAAP or regulatory stress testing submissions is highly valued, as is exposure to Basel III/IV interpretation and application. Experience with Advanced Internal Ratings-Based (A-IRB) credit risk models covering PD (Probability of Default), LGD (Loss Given Default), and EAD (Exposure at Default), as well as advanced liquidity behavioural modelling, will be considered advantageous. Experience mentoring or technically guiding junior quantitative analysts is also preferred.
Qualifications
The minimum educational requirement is an Honours degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative discipline. A Master's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Econometrics, or Finance is preferred. Professional certifications such as CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst), FRM (Financial Risk Manager), or PRM (Professional Risk Manager) are considered advantageous and will strengthen an application.
Conditions of Employment
Successful candidates must have a clear criminal and credit record. Capitec Bank is committed to diversity, and applications to this position will be strictly considered in support of the bank's employment equity goals. The work arrangement for this position is onsite at the Stellenbosch location.
