About the Role
The Quantitative Analyst II will join the Model Validation team at Capitec Bank, a unit responsible for providing assurance on the accuracy, robustness, and governance of models used throughout the organisation. The team supports sound risk management, financial decision-making, and regulatory compliance across multiple domains including credit risk, finance, capital modelling, and fraud detection.
In this position, the successful candidate will conduct end-to-end model validations, take ownership of key deliverables, and develop challenger models to verify the accuracy, reliability, and compliance of the bank's existing models. The role requires collaboration with modelling and business units, offering technical challenge and validation expertise to ensure models continue to perform effectively as the banking environment evolves.
Key Responsibilities
The Quantitative Analyst II will be expected to:
- Conduct comprehensive model validations across different domains within the bank
- Take ownership of key validation deliverables and ensure timely completion
- Build challenger models to test and verify the performance of existing models
- Ensure models meet accuracy, reliability, and compliance standards
- Collaborate closely with modelling and business teams to provide technical challenge
- Support the bank's risk management and financial decision-making processes
- Contribute to maintaining regulatory compliance across all model types
Qualifications
Capitec Bank has set clear academic requirements for this position:
Minimum Qualification: A degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or Data Science is required.
Preferred Qualification: An Honours degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or Actuarial Science is ideal and will strengthen an application.
Experience and Skills Required
Candidates must demonstrate the following experience and competencies:
Required Experience
- Proven 3-6 years of experience in credit scorecard building, including developing, validating, and monitoring scorecards for credit risk application and behaviour models or marketing purposes
- Experience with data mining techniques used for analyses and predictive modelling
- Full understanding of the credit lifecycle and its various stages
Essential Skills
- Strong analytical ability with keen attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively across multiple model types and domains
- Collaborative mindset with the capacity to engage productively with both technical and business teams
- Excellent communication skills to convey complex technical concepts
