The Software Engineer: Back-End III will work within the Cash Devices team, taking responsibility for the technical backbone of Capitec's ATM operations. Key Responsibilities
The Software Engineer: Back-End III will be responsible for a range of technical tasks that ensure the stability and functionality of Capitec's ATM systems:
Develop and maintain custom applications and interfaces using the Postilion SDK
Build and support Cash Devices applications and device integration solutions for ATMs, POS systems, and related devices
Customise and extend Postilion functionality to meet business and operational requirements
Develop and maintain SDK-based integrations using Java in complex integration environments
Support and upgrade integration drivers between devices and ATM applications
Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and issue resolution for Postilion-related systems
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including QA, infrastructure, and business analysts to deliver integrated solutions
Support patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management of ATM software platforms to ensure ongoing operational stability
Eligibility Criteria and Requirements
Capitec Bank Ltd is looking for candidates who meet specific technical and professional criteria to ensure they can contribute effectively from day one.
Minimum Experience Requirements
At least 5 years' experience in a Postilion systems role, including exposure to Postilion Realtime, PostCard, Postilion Office, and ATM application environments
At least 5 years' current experience with either Postilion SDK or Java development in integration-heavy environments
Strong understanding of ISO 8583 messaging and ATM transaction flows, which are essential for processing financial transactions
Experience with ATM device protocols such as Diebold 912 and NCR NDC
Experience working with modern source control systems including Git and GitHub, with practical knowledge of branching, merge requests, and code reviews
Scripting experience, preferably with PowerShell or Python, for automation and support tasks
Solid database knowledge with SQL Server experience preferred
Experience in banking, fintech, payments, or switching platform environments
Technical Skills Required
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and debugging skills to resolve complex technical issues
Excellent communication and documentation abilities to collaborate effectively and maintain clear records
