Overview
The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), in collaboration with the SASOL Foundation, invites students to apply for their bursary programme for the 2027 academic year. This merit-based bursary aims to support full-time, unemployed students pursuing qualifications in priority areas identified by the CSIR, such as research, technology development, and innovation.

Bursaries are available for undergraduate studies in the following fields deemed a priority by the CSIR:

- Computer Engineering
- Computer Science
- Data Science
- Electronic Engineering
- Genetics / Cell Biology
- Industrial Engineering
- Information Technology
- Material Flow Analysis
- Mechatronic Engineering
- Process Engineering / Life Cycle Assessment
- System Engineering
What the Bursary Covers
The bursary provides coverage for:
- Registration fees
- Tuition fees
- Books
- Accommodation
- Living allowances
- A once-off laptop allowance

Eligibility Criteria
Current Matric Students:
- South African citizen
- Unemployed and currently in Matric
- Plan to study full-time in one of the listed fields in 2027
- Enroll at a public university in South Africa
- Meet Matric results requirements: minimum level 5 in English and level 6 in Mathematics and Physical Science
Current University Students:
- South African citizen
- Unemployed and studying full-time in one of the listed fields
- Maintain a minimum overall average of 65% and pass all courses
