Maize Trust: Bursaries 2025
The Maize Trust is inviting applications for their postgraduate bursary programme for the 2025 academic year. Bursaries are available for Master (MSc) and Doctorate (PhD) studies within the maize industry.

- Food Sciences (relevant to the crop industry)
- Livestock Science
- Molecular Biology
- Pasture Science
- Plant Biochemistry
- Plant Breeding
- Plant Entomology
- Plant Nematology
- Plant Pathology
- Plant Physiology
- Soil Microbiology
- Soil Science
- Weed Science
Bursary Value
The bursary amount will vary based on the level of study:
- MSc students: Up to R99,750 per annum for 2 years.
- PhD students: Up to R131,250 per annum for 3 years.
The disbursement is tied to progress reports, with the first installment in January 2025.
Obligations
Graduates must work within the South African maize industry for a period equal to the bursary duration received.
Eligibility Requirements
- South African citizenship
- Completed Matric
- Enrollment in or intention to enroll in a related full-time MSc or PhD program
- Study at a Maize Trust recognized institution
- No concurrent bursary awards (unless agreed by the Trust)
- A dissertation/thesis topic approved by the Maize Trust
- Willingness to work in the maize industry post-study
- Agreement to bursary conditions and legal undertaking
