Overview
The Analytics Engineer II position is designed for professionals who can bridge the gap between Data Engineers and Data Analysts. This role requires someone who can collaborate with stakeholders to understand analytical needs, partner with Data Architects and Data Modellers to design scalable models, and build efficient, reproducible data assets. The team is currently migrating to a modernised data platform while keeping the legacy environment operational, making this an exciting opportunity to work across both systems and ensure data remains clean, reliable, and accessible throughout the transition.
Key Responsibilities
As an Analytics Engineer II at Capitec Bank Ltd, the successful candidate will undertake a range of technical and collaborative responsibilities, including:
- Building scalable data models, marts, and semantic layers that support analytical workflows
- Designing reproducible transformations and pipelines across both legacy and modernised data environments
- Partnering with Data Architects and Data Modellers to align solutions with enterprise data strategy
- Maintaining data quality and governance standards throughout the ongoing migration process
- Productionising reports using engineering principles to ensure reliability and performance
- Working with CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and orchestration tools such as Airflow
- Leveraging AI tools, including Copilot and Claude, as active partners in daily work
Minimum Experience Requirements
Capitec Bank Ltd has outlined three pathways to meet the minimum experience requirements for this position:
- Honours degree in an analytics, engineering, STEM, or related field, plus at least 5 years of relevant experience, OR
- Bachelor's degree in an analytics, STEM, or related field, plus at least 8 years of relevant experience, OR
- Equivalent experience of 8 years relevant experience and/or relevant certifications
In addition to the above, candidates must have:
- At least 5 years of experience in analytics engineering or a related role
- A proven track record of delivering scalable data solutions and leading projects
- Experience working with high-volume data environments
- Experience with CI/CD, testing frameworks, and orchestration tools such as Airflow
- Experience productionising reports using engineering principles
Qualifications
Minimum Qualification: Bachelor's Degree in Analytical, Data, Technical, or other relevant field
Preferred Qualification: Honours Degree in Analytical, Data, Technical, Engineering, or other related field
Required Knowledge and Skills
The ideal candidate will possess an advanced grasp of several technical areas, including:
- Data modelling best practices
- Data governance and quality assurance
- Cloud data platforms and orchestration tools such as Airflow or Prefect
- Software engineering principles, including CI/CD and testing
