This position exists to lead Capitec's software testing capability forward by developing team members, increasing automation coverage, and raising quality standards across all digital product releases. The successful candidate will directly manage four testers and have significant influence over how testing evolves within a high-impact product team.
About the Opportunity
As an Automation Lead, you will take ownership of the end-to-end testing approach for your product area, working on high-impact digital journeys including credit and lending products used by millions of clients across South Africa. The role sits within a product-focused technology team that includes software engineers, test analysts, system analysts, and operations specialists.

Key Responsibilities
The Automation Lead will be responsible for:
- Leading and supporting a team of software test analysts, helping them develop into stronger, more automated testers
- Owning the end-to-end testing approach for your product area, from planning through to release readiness
- Increasing test automation coverage while ensuring manual testing remains effective where it matters most
- Setting clear testing standards and ensuring quality risks are identified early and managed effectively
- Working closely with software engineers, product partners, and operations teams to deliver reliable releases
- Building confidence in testing outcomes by making results visible, clear, and trusted across the organisation
Qualifications and Requirements

- Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Information Management
Experience and Skills Required
- Solid experience in software testing, covering both manual and automated testing approaches
- Hands-on experience with test automation, including scripting and modern automation tools
- At least one year of experience leading or managing a testing team
- Strong understanding of the full software delivery lifecycle and where testing adds the most value
- Ability to create clear test plans and guide others through them effectively
- Confident communication skills and a calm, structured approach to problem-solving
- Analytical skills to assess complex systems and identify quality risks
- Change management skills to guide the team through the transition to increased automation
- Strong management and leadership capabilities
