Overview
The Test Automation Engineer will be responsible for enabling and enhancing software quality assurance by implementing automation testing activities and scenarios that ensure software meets and exceeds defined quality specifications. This position involves leading automation practices, supporting less experienced team members, and contributing to the continuous improvement of testing frameworks and methodologies within the organisation.
Key Responsibilities

- Designing, implementing, and optimising automation testing activities and scenarios throughout the Software Development Life Cycle
- Driving automation practices within a defined system or product area to ensure effective test coverage and quality outcomes
- Building and maintaining service stubs and mocks using Node.js to support testing environments
- Validating event flows and producing test messages in event-driven architectures using Kafka
- Analysing, interpreting, and validating system behaviour using appropriate testing techniques
- Leading and mentoring less experienced or junior team members to uplift automation capabilities within the team
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure continuous improvement and innovation in quality assurance practices
Minimum Requirements
Experience
- 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in automation testing
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript and Node.js
- Solid experience with Playwright for end-to-end test automation
- Proven experience building and maintaining service stubs and mocks with Node.js
- Proficiency in SQL, especially PostgreSQL and SQL Server
- Experience with event-driven architectures and Kafka, including consuming and producing test messages and validating event flows
- Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring less experienced or junior team members
Knowledge
- Sound understanding of software development lifecycles and quality assurance principles
- Proficiency in automation testing frameworks and approaches across the testing lifecycle
- Working knowledge of modern development practices, including version control and continuous integration/continuous delivery
- Understanding of system integration, APIs, and data management concepts relevant to testing
- Familiarity with test management, defect tracking, and reporting practices
- Knowledge of cloud-based environments and distributed system architectures
- Ability to analyse, interpret, and validate system behaviour using appropriate testing techniques
- Capability to support and guide less experienced team members
Education
- Grade 12 National Certificate or Vocational qualification
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science
