Overview
Capitec Bank is seeking a Data Analyst II to support its Group Treasury team in Stellenbosch. This is not a traditional reporting role—it involves owning and evolving the Sigma analytics platform built on top of a Snowflake data environment. The successful candidate will work closely with Treasury leadership and technical teams to translate business questions into data requirements, ensuring that critical insights are accurate, accessible, and decision-ready.
About the Opportunity
The Data Analyst II will act as the bridge between technical teams and business stakeholders, translating Treasury, liquidity, and capital requirements into usable data products. This role requires involvement in the design of new processes to ensure data needs are met at the end of projects with minimal rework. The position supports senior decision-making by delivering clear, actionable insights that shape strategy and planning across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
The Data Analyst II will be responsible for a range of duties focused on analytics, reporting, and continuous improvement:
- Build and maintain Sigma dashboards, data models, and reporting solutions that support ALCO, Exco, and Board-level decision-making
- Translate complex Treasury, liquidity, and capital requirements into clear and usable data products
- Design KPIs, dashboards, scenario analyses, and self-service tools to enable faster, data-driven decisions for both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Act as the bridge between business and data teams by translating business questions into data requirements and ensuring reporting solutions are built with the end in mind
- Identify opportunities to streamline reporting, reduce manual effort, and leverage AI and modern tooling to improve productivity and efficiency
- Partner closely with Treasury, Finance, Risk, Data Engineering, and Analytics teams to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions
- Understand business processes and data flows into the warehouse, and participate in the design of new processes to ensure data requirements are integrated from the start
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Data, Analytics, Finance, or a related analytical, data, or technical field
- Minimum of five years' experience in data analysis, BI engineering, or analytics platforms
- Strong SQL skills and experience working with large datasets
- Experience with BI tools such as Sigma, Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms
- Ability to communicate insights clearly to non-technical stakeholders
- Minimum of five years' experience delivering data-driven insights in a business environment
Ideal Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications and experience will distinguish strong candidates:
- Honours Degree in an analytical, data, or technical field
- Experience working on cloud data platforms such as Snowflake
- Exposure to Treasury, banking, or financial services data
- Experience building data models, dashboards, and automated workflows
- Understanding of AI and GenAI use cases in analytics
- Experience working with or interpreting Python, R, or Excel-based models
- Proven track record of influencing decisions through data at a senior level
Knowledge and Skills
The successful candidate should demonstrate the following knowledge and skills:
- Advanced proficiency in writing complex SQL, optimising query performance, and working with large datasets on a cloud warehouse, with Snowflake preferred
- Strong proficiency in building advanced, governed visualisations, dashboards, and data models in Sigma or similar platforms such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker
- Solid understanding of cloud data warehouse architecture, data modelling, and semantic layers, ideally Snowflake
- Understanding of analytics workflow orchestration, automation, and data governance including version control, approvals, audit trails, and lineage
- Practical understanding of AI and GenAI applied to analytics, including semantic layers, AI-assisted workflow and dashboard design, and automation of analytics processes
- Ability to read and interpret existing Python, R, or Excel models in order to port their logic and outputs into Sigma and Snowflake
- Expertise in advanced Excel, including macros and VBA, sufficient to interpret and migrate existing Excel-based models
- Awareness of Treasury and ALM concepts such as IRRBB, NII/EVE, LCR/NSFR, FTP, capital planning, and stress testing, as well as regulatory artefacts like LAS, ICAAP, ILAAP, CSST, and Recovery Plan is advantageous
